Description
Presented is a lovely pair of Victorian seed pearl bridal earrings. Thesepieces date to around the 1850-1870 and are of American make. The earrings have
10 karat gold backs, for pierced ears. The earrings consist of seed pearls with
larger round pearls sewn onto a mother-of-pearl backing, forming a design of a
cluster of grapes. Seed pearl jewelry in this delicate, hand-sewn style was
often made and worn specifically as bridal jewelry for a wedding, and this suite
would be a lovely addition to any vintage themed bridal ensemble today.
The earrings are in good overall condition. One of the earrings is missing a
pearl from the connecting link between the top and bottom portion. There have
been some old glue repairs to the mother-of-pearl backing, as is typical with
delicate pieces of this age. One of the earrings has a larger ear wire that
extends further above the top of the earring than is visible on the other, but
this asymmetry seems to be in the making, and is not noticeable when the
earrings are being worn.
The earrings are not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested the gold with
nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10 karat gold.
Each earring is about 2 1/8 inches long.
The total weight for the pair is 7.6 grams.
